  • This information is, then, forwarded by the merchant to his payment gateway using the same SSL encryption and this information is further forwarded to the payment processor of the merchants acquiring bank.

  • The transaction information is forwarded to the card association by the payment processor.

  • Depending on the type of card used, the response to the transaction along with the response code that is used in case of a declined transaction is sent back to the payment processor and from there to the payment gateway.

  • This response is forwarded by the payment gateway to the website or the interface used by the merchant and the relevant response is shared with the customer.

  • This entire process takes only 2 to 3 seconds.

  • All the approved transactions are then submitted by the merchant to his acquiring bank in a batch.

  • The approved funds are then deposited in the merchant’s nominated account by the acquiring bank.

  • This process, from authorization to settlement takes three days.
